Registering a business name

Apologies if this is in the wrong area but I have a bit of a random question - does anybody know how much it would cost to register the name of a business?

The reason that I ask is that my other half has talked about opening her own business within the next 12 to 18 months. As a surprise, I was going to start the ball rolling for her on a few things and I was thinking of registering the business name. I had a look online but didn't really understand the exact cost so if anybody has any experience of this I would be very grateful.

You should be looking at under £25 inc VAT, looking at a company I used in the past they charge £19 https://www.quickformations.com/company-formation/quickname/

Remember you will either need to file accounts or file to say the company is dormant and that costs £14 a time (if I remember correctly)

To be honest, I would not risk doing anything without your other half knowing about it and having input in your decision to act on her behalf.
