Not being in the finance industry I am forever amazed that these companies seem to do whatever they like ! Usually at my expense .
If they whittle away all your money its just the market if you happen to strike lucky with a fund or whatever you soon find they put a stop to it. I have most of my 'pension' in property and I am still glad i have it that way.0 -

They dont do whatever they like. You got a contract some time in the 1980s and you still have that contract and it is still doing what it said it would.
The Government abolished that tax wrapper for new business in 1988 and replaced it with a new one.If they whittle away all your money its just the market if you happen to strike lucky with a fund or whatever you soon find they put a stop to it.
I dont know what you are investing in but that doesnt match my experienceI have most of my 'pension' in property and I am still glad i have it that way.
So, if the value of the property falls then its just the market. You do realise that that isnt actually a lot of difference between equities and property. Both are based on perceived values and both can provide an income. Equities though have historically outperformed property in the long term but tend to be more volatile in the short term.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Hello dunstonh, I got the pension through Lloyds and had not a single jot of aftersales from them, partly expected as they are not IFAs. Unfortunately I did go to an IFA back in 2000 and managed to lose a considerable sum over the next few years with absolutely zilch contact from them. They had got me into Zero's which wasnt so hot . I understand all IFAs are not like this but for the in-experienced when you get into this you have no idea.
Thats why the idea of a 2nd house to rent out appealled . You get the rent plus any improvement in the house price over time. And one big plus is I can understand all the intricacies myself and not trust to someone I dont know from Adam.
Sorry to be so miserable about the Finance industry but to be honest I dont think it helps itself to get trust with the public, like me.
Thanks for listening.....0 -

Dunstonh is taking an unfortunate enforced break from posting. He will hopefully be back soon.

"People who are on here to cause trouble will be PPR'd immediately. Yet we may be forced to do the same with usually-helpful posters, who get into spats or push it too far."
Without wishing to be pushy, or to "divert mod resources" I would like to know why the system does not seem to allow average posters like me to know why posters have been PPRd?
This is supposed to be a community, so surely it must be to the long term benefit of the system to at least try to justify why significant posters have been silenced?
I, and I'm sure many other posters want to know why Dunstonh has been PPR'd. I appreciate that there might be legal issues etc, but it cannot be healthy for a so called free forum to be so unaccountable to it's users.
How do you expect to encourage participation if no explanations are given for banning people?
Do you think that obsessive secrecy is the way to promote a culture of debate and engagement?
Do you want to get rid of anyone with something substantial to say, and be left with a bunch of newbies posting unchallenged fads of the day like cashing pensions for buy to lets or the safety of cash?
The pensions industry is moving fast and people are looking for input -I thought that was what this forum was supposed to be all about?0 -

How will he be back soon?PPR means posting privileges removed indefinitelyIn the past, we tried hard not to PPR long-standing forum users. Sadly, we had so many issues taking time away from our core MoneySaving work, that protection
had to go. Now, if someone's persistently causing trouble, they're PPR'd. If they are, please don't talk about them on the forum. It's unfair to do this when they aren't able to respond.0 -
