Hi,
Bristol is a great place to live - if a little expensive.
I moved to Bristol about 18 months ago from Derby and I love it here. There is loads to do and I find the pace of life here very good.
Have to get used to all the traffic though.
If you want information on rents and decent areas let me know.0 -
Try posting this on the house buying renting and selling board.0

I guess it depends where you are moving from. If you are moving from the midlands or the north then it will seem expensive, if you are moving from London or the south east then it will seem cheap.
As with any city there are expensive areas and areas that are much cheaper.
Entertainment wise there is always plenty going on.0 -
Bristol traffic must be amongst the worst in the country - it is an absolute nightmare.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

Am also thinking of doing this. Agree with geri1965 with expensive-ness. What is the nightlife like?0

Nope, disagree!! Totnes in Devon is definately the worst in the country.
I'm originally from Bristol and regularly go there to see family. I LOVE it up there. The nightlife is amazing, the city centre has plenty to offer and they have one of the best worst football teams in the country :rotfl:0 -
I found it expensive, when I was living alone my rent was much less than a comparable place but in shared it was more and council tax is very high (lower if you're in Gloucester) and public transport is poor (due in part to the bad traffic mentioned above) and expensive compared to other cities for what you get.
But it has a lot going on for its size, great theatre, easy access to lovely walks, good schools (but if you have kids be aware it has too few places) and good beer.0 -

Not true - we have TWO of the best worst football teams in the country
(* feels guilty and adds 'Up The Gas!').
There's lots to like about living in Bristol, but I think it's the (mostly) fantastic people who live in the city rather than the people that run it that make it such a vibrant and interesting place to live in. You would probably have to go the length and breadth of the country before you found a city as anti-progress as ours (which is why neither of our best worst football teams have an adequate stadium), or as anti-car. We could well be able to boast more bus and bike lanes per square mile than anywhere else outside the capital though
Some people say that we gurt talk funny here too, by I got no ideal what they bist on about. They just casn't be washing their earholes out. Is gert lush living in Bristol
