I can't afford a PS4 and my PS3 packed up recently had the dreaded YLOD and I rang Sony and they was charging me over £100 to repair!

I'm thinking of getting a PS2 or a cheap PS3 that is capable of playing PS2 games.

Where's the best place to buy cheap PS2 games?

Game, the price of PS3's might come down when the PS4 is out.
  • CashConvertors/CashGenerator - my local one has loads of PS2 games for 50p

If mobile phone sales are anything to go by and compare with you would be looking at 3-6 months for any significant change...or just after Easter :p

Really, wouldn't have expected that long, I was working on the assumption that people would trade in an old console and the retailers will want to get rid of them but thats dependant on how many they get traded in.

Its dropping very quickly for both consoles already on the second hand market, 360 S has gone lower than £100 and PS3 a little more at £130 - thats for the top model HDD in both.
  • Independent retailers would be your best bet. In Brixton there's a shop called GamesMaster that still has loads of them. Mostly pre-owned. Seems to be where they are cheapest.
    Cex could be good, too.

Retailers will get a massive influx of PS3s at launch of PS4 as some of them are using it as a trade-in deal. Doesn't mean they'll sell them off particularly cheap.

As far as using your current games as currency goes Trade In Detectives is a good site. There is a massive difference in prices that retailers offer to buy your old games.

Lastly, if you don't mind playing old games then annual franchises are your best bet. I got FIFA 10 for a pound last year and old WWE games will be very cheap.

I'm always on the hunt for cheap PS2 games, I got given one a few months ago, but the decent ones are pretty hard to find. It's worth keeping an eye on the local charity shops as they seem to get them in in batches, I managed to snag most of the GTA games and some other interesting oddities this way, whereas most of the chain s/h shops just seem to have millions of copies of sports games and charge top whack for the good stuff on the rare occasions they have it.
    Out on blue six..
It's Chips and Jackets, Peas and Trousers.

Word of warning about the second hand Game PS3 60gb (only UK version that is capable of playing PS2 games), I have ordered 4 (yes 4) of these at various times during the year and not 1 of them has lasted longer than about a month, in fact 1 had YLOD straight out the box, 1 had a dodge graphics card straight out the box and the other 2 got the YLOD after light usage. I have had pre owned machines from there that have been fine but the 60gb is definitely a no goer in my eyes as they had a fundamental fault that is not easily repaired
