Advice please ipod and docking station

Hi my husband is retiring in September and I want to give him a really special present to thank him for working so hard for our family.

I want to get him an Ipod and docking station.
Advice please. Thats all I know-- what I want to get him.

How do I choose I am not the slightest bit techy. I don't mind pushing the boat out as I would like to get a system with really good quality sound etc. So with this in mind is it possible to save a few pennies as well.Which is the best ipod?

A friend recommended a Bose docking station -- any views

Hi there,

I have a Nano which is great but I guess it depends how many songs you would like it to hold.

However I have been researching docking stations at the moment.

1st question is does it need to be portable? (i.e. running from batteries) or is it more something to sit in a particular room?

Found this last night - it also comes in silver.

Still on the hunt for some cheapish portable speakers to take to the villa for summer hols but trying to find speakers that are portable and look nice is proving hard!!!

Hi,

Sorry another small point - my hubby (on behalf of the kids!) bought me my nano for my birthday - direct from Apple and they engraved a message for free onto the back of it So although you pay the top price from Apple you can do this and personalise it.

Just a thought - as it is for a special occasion - although to be fair I didn't get his engraved and he still loves it!

I have just followed the link to Amazon and see there are 18 reviews but cant open them -- Help!! Are you going to go with the Klipsch?

Also I think it will be situated in 1 place but we have a little town house in Spain so may want to take it there so can you take the docking station with you. Is it lack of space in your luggage that makes you look for portable speakers?

Does the Nano have the largest storage capacity for CD's Can you also watch DVD s on it.

Are you going to go with the Klipsch yes - as soon as I deceid which colour would look best!!!

Lack of space is one issue - we have 3 kids 6 and under so we need to take car seats etc - anything of value i.e camcorder/ camera/ and discs/ memory cards gets split between hubby and myselfs hand luggage -as well as stuuf to keep kids quite on the plane!!! There would not be enough room for large speakers too. So if I get a "cheapish" set then not the end of the world if a case goes missing. Also they need to be portable as we like to have music when outside (we spend most of hols in pool!) but we normally sit the stero on a chair out onto the patio - one of these days it is going to get knocked over so no wires coming out of the door is the main reason!!!

I was having a similar dilemma last month. I was toying between getting either the Bose Sound dock or the Klipsch iGroove. In the end I went with the Bose. The sound quality is amazing. I am by no means a gadget freak at all, yet the sound from this was so clear and sharp. For example, if it is playing in the kitchen, it sounds crystal clear upstairs also, no distortion at all.

I've just bought an iPod via the Apple online store via Quidco for 3% discount. It's a red 8gb one which I have chosen to have engraved for my son's birthday. It shows you how the engraving will look aswell. I've looked around and the only 8gb I can find is in black which I didn't want although you can get it about £15/£20 cheaper. I looked online, saw the Red one, they make a donation to HIV/Aids aswell and with son a Liverpool fan I thought the red was appropriate! HTH
