Charity shops - expensive?

In my area it is the Cancer Research shops that are really expensive, which is a shame as I would like to support them more (my mum died of cancer).
I do donate to them but just don't buy from them as their prices are way out of kilter, and as others have found are more expensive than brand new.
Oxfam in our area is much cheaper and so is BHF. Funny how there are such regional differences:dance:Sometimes I sing and dance around the house in my underwear. Doesn't make me Madonna. Never will. :dance:0 -
I know that a lot of people scour charity shops for things to sell on ebay - maybe the increase in pricing is a consequence of that?
One Oxfam shop I popped in the other week, oin a posh part of town , had a poster oin the window explicitly requesting valuable items and had a 'roll of honour' listing the items!!! Still, if it makes them money...
I quite like the idea of getting a second hand wedding dress from the, if the time ever arises that I need one...0 -

BHF round here is reasonable, Scope is cheap, as is Marie Curie.
The best ones for bargains are the local hospice, FARA and DEBRA. PDSA is reasonable too.
Age Concern is expensive, as is Cancer Research, although they have lovely items.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

I disagree, they have a lot of paperwork, banking, staffing issues etc to do, the same as any business. They would be hard pushed to find anyone to do it out of the goodness of their heart. I'm a volunteer so don't get paid but I do my bit and then walk away after a shift and don't have to think about the place till the next time I go in.0 -

Around here Oxfam is very expensive as is Barnados. Heart Foundation isn't quite as bad, at least they have some quality items and its not all cheap Primark tat. My favourites are the Sue Ryder shop (two nice women always serving) I've had a few Next suits from there which are like new and the RSPCA who are great for books.
I bought some books from the RSPCA shop once for 20p each and later sold one of them on ebay for nearly £4. I think it was because of the scantily clad man on the front cover and the bidders got over exicited..
BTW usually I don't put them on ebay I just give them back to the charity shop.0 -

I'm surprised at everybody saying Oxfam is one of the more expensive shops, round here they are quite reasonable, in fact one of the cheapest. Jeans tend to be about £2.99 and tops about £1.99, kids clothes are give or take £1 per item. A while ago they must have been clearing stock and had a 'fill a bag for £1' day, I got 2 bags including a fabulous green vintage 70s maxi dress and a really lovely black party outfit for my daughter. I find Heart Foundation is expensive too.
2.99 for jeans seem reasonable and when branded ARE a bargain, but when you can go to a shop and get 2 pairs for a fiver! its not THAT cheap!
prices should reflect brands
