  • and no.. Im not a moron, I do know you have to peel the banana before you eat it!!LOL:D
Im trying to eat a healthier diet and loose some weight which also works out quite well with OS living. Thing is Im not really a big fan of fruit on its own. Anyone got any suggestions for how to turn it into healthy meals/desserts that arent too fattening and preferably can be frozen??
(I already grate apple into my morning porridge and make mini fruit crumbles, also thought about smoothies but it seems a pain to have to wash up the blender just for a drink!):o

Make a big bowl of fruit salad then freeze in portion size. In the summer I pick raspberries in the garden then dry freeze them and use on porridge and yogurt throughout the winter

I dislike raw fruit when i am cold. Hot though, its not fruit its a pudding! Baked or stewed applles are delcious, as ar peaches and blueberries grilled or roasted. And plums, stewed, and sometimes a litttle ground or flaked almonds added.

In summer i make fruit salad,s but not boring old fruit salads. Fruit salads all of gold en yellow frits, or all of red ones. Melon steeped in a little of the syrup from jars of ginger. Fruit salads eith a little orange blossom water, or rose water....and flaked pistachios...

Over winter hot berry soup has britened my morning more than once, as has various fruit with my porridge
I could go on and on and on....

Good tips are to think of it seasonally, fruit grown in uk in the right summer and autumn season neds the least adulteration. Late winter and eartly sroing really do invite you to cook the fruit and eat it warm imo.

Low calorie "creme brulee" is always a winner in our house.

Fill your serving dish 3/4 of peeled and chopped fruit (any sort you like, I love strawberries, rasps and melon). Spoon over fat free natural yoghurt until the fruit is covered. Sprinkle with some brown sugar. Place in fridge for at least an hour.

The sugar and the yoghurt react and you get a lovely caramel topping.

I make smoothies for my children with a stick blender which just needs a quick rinse in hot water to clean it. You can buy them in supermarkets for around £5 to save on washing up a blender if it bothers you. They're also great for making (veggie) soups. What about stewed fruits? Quick and easy to do and gives a quick sugar hit if you need it.

If you don't like it then don't worry about the fruit, it's the veg that's important. Berries are good for you though, the nutrients more concentrated (and they taste nicer IMO).

I always see that tinned fruit in natural juice is as good as fresh but if I wash the syrup off fruit tinned in syrup why wouldn't that count. It is always much cheaper than when it is tinned in juice.

    Good to know.
I'm a bit weird, can't eat raw fruit or veg anymore, upsets my stomach too much (fine when cooked though), so to make sure I get my 5 a day, I have a portion of veg with everything. I add veg to spag bol for example, when I wouldn't have before, and this has the advantage of bulking it out & not needing to add so much meat!

Agree with LIR, stewed fruit is delicious & quick & easy.

We had this a while ago & it was yummy:

LOL, my spagbog is more carrot than meat. Grated courgette, oats, lentils, often feature as well, it's whatever I've got to hand really.

We buy the frozen bags of raspberries and use for smoothies and porridge. With the porridge, I put the frozen fruit in the bowl and top with piping hot porridge - I find this thaws them without heating them too much so they don't go as easily to mush. Cools it down for the younger mouths too. Love sorbets too made with pureed raw fruit - they do have sugar in, but no fat so less calories than icecream. Fresh fruit with meringues again does have sugar, but no added fat so that might be an option - perhaps with greek yoghurt. Actually, buying natural yoghurt and adding your own fruit would be good too.
