Amounts vary from one minute to the next but a lot of raw sugar went up in smoke last night:

Today I found NO ordinary white sugar for sale at my As*a online (They still have unrefined, sugar substitutes and icing sugar), Mr.T online still has 'normal' sugar on sale and I'll be poking around the local shops in a day or so anyway.
I don't agree with 'panic buying' but I've got a few cakes that still need to be baked for Xmas so I'll be after a couple of bags sharpish just to sure I'm not left short.
Wonder if we'll get an actual price increase or if it's all hype to get the share prices up
Hope we don't just end up getting fleeced over it like with most things.

Silver spoon is grown in the UK so it should not be affected.
But it will be interesting to see!

My local Morrisons had tons of Tate & Lyle this morning for 88p.
And My local Tesco has it online for 94p.
Edit: Just checked and they have 2kg bags of silver spoon for £1.79.0 -
According to the story on the BBC, the NY futures market for sugar jumped by 6% before falling back later in the day and international prices rose to their highest for a year.
Although they say that 180,000 tonnes were lost it is a drop in the ocean of sugar that goes through the port each year (12.8million tonnes) so I don't think it will have a long-term effect on supplies.0 -

Too early for final figures but many farms are reporting lighter than normal crops.
