Can I have some advice please?

Hi everyone,
I used to post a little on this forum and then returned to just lurking when my life got a little busier.
I have recently purchased a house with my partner of 5 years and our two children ( both under 3).
I have also just returned to work part time. Just thought Id make a brief a past as possible to see if anyone has any ideas.
My partner earns arround £34k a year , could go a few thousand either way with overtime and I bring in around £640 a month which amounts to around £2700 a month , maybe slightly more if you take into account child benefit.

I am currently studying to try and increase my chances of getting a better job and my partner has a good trade and is in a very secure job ( well as secure as you can be these days).

What with paying fees for my course and trying to finish off learning to drive it feels like we are getting into some trouble.
My job makes me really unhappy, mostly due to the fact that the people in my workplace generally are pretty horrible and you are expected do so much in such little time for very little wages.

At the moment we dont pay for any childcare and run only one car ( completely paid off, so no debt regarding the car). We have a few thousand ( at most 4) on the credit cards on 0% but it completely panics me that it is taking us so long to pay them off.

Dont get me wrong I am so grateful for what we have and I know there are people that are far far far worse off that us but I just want to feel like I am able to have more control over our income. Can anyone suggest anything I can do to either get a better more flexible job now or earn some additional money?

Just to add to that, we dont go out or drink alcohol and I already ebay everything that we dont use anymore so Ive already given that a good go.

Thanks in advance and Im sorry that this message might not be the most coherant but I'm just getting used to this.

    Hi Rebecca

    Welcome to DFW forums.
I'm not quite sure what advice you want? I think maybe you should start by looking at your spending habits to see where you can make savings, try the groceries challenges or NSD challenges. Budgeting is going to be important for you to make changes, so look at the budgeting threads.

    Hope this helps

  • on reading this back my post is just a total ramble, so sorry about that. I think what Im trying to ask if there is anything i should do to make sure that I am doing the best I can to pay this debt off asap.

I think once I get rid of this burden I will be able to see our options a lot more clearly and be more able to work out what we actually have to spend available a month

I think you have a pretty good household income at the moment to be honest, stop worrying about wanting more and enjoy your life. If you have enough

Why not put up an SOA so we can maybe look at your spending habits and at least have more disposable income as you are now.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Thanks for the response
I completely agree with it and I think it has a lot to do with the pressure I feel there is to do so many different things at once. Driving lessons, courses, new car etc. When in reality I know id be so much happier with just less 'stuff". I dont have time this evening but I think ill post an SOA tomorrow and see if anyone can give me any pointers as to were Im maybe going wrong.

Again so sorry if i seem ungrateful , im really not . I just think ive got a few other problems to deal with at the moment and spend to try and solve this but it just seems to make it all worse.

Got to try and remember how lucky i am just to have any job in this climate and try and just stop and appreciate the small things.

Thanks so much for the reples.
  • I agree. Post a soa, start to get your money under control with a budget which is clear and simple, then there's one less thing to mash your head . Good luck
