Car Question

If your car is allowed, you can also claim for basic road-side assistance (AA etc.)
to add.....[not suggesting anything at all at all at all].....one might have breakdown cover via one's vehicle insurance? The cost of which is included in one's premium?
Far be for me to suggest checking out AA's basic assistance cover, and including that in one's expenses..........to maybe offset an expense elsewhere which might be cut or denied?
['haircut' syndrome??}No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
On a side note, insurers usually ask if you are the owner of the vehicle. If you are not (your Dad is) make sure they know this or you could find your insurance is invalid.Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0

whilst not wishing to challenge the above, in my experience, such information has never been sought.....however, they have asked who the registered keeper is......[which is, an entirely different matter?]
However, I concede that might be the case where company-owned vehicles are concerned? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Your roadtax monthly figure should be £2.5 a month.
And they might suggest you are spending a lot on fuel.
In the car you mention that could mean you are doing 16-17k miles a year.
On your income you really can't afford a car. Sorry.0 -
Car maintenance must surely be more than a tenner a month, especially when taking MOT costs out, and considering your fuel/ possible mileage.
To be safe, I would go with 400 to 500 a year inc MOT cost, even with a couple of tyres, servicing and any unknown problems, that is conservative.0 -

Not taking it as a challenge, but in my experience when getting quotes in the last few years I have frequently been asked 'are you the owner and registered keeper?'
For example, just had a quick look on Compare The Market. the second question on the policy details screen is 'Are you the registered keeper and legal owner?' If you answer no, it then asks you for the details of both.
Now, I know they are not an insurer but presumably they ask this because it matters to some insurers?
As some insurers are notorious for rejecting claims based on not being told something that might be relevant, I just think it's worth making sure the insurer knows who the legal owner is and finding out whether they care.Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
A new option on Confused.com is they ask who the owner is, you can answer things like Ltd Co or Partner i think.
The next question is registered keeper with options to chose main driver etc.
In these times of finance being difficult to get i think they have become more realistic.
They certainly never used to like it when i answered the question about who owns the vehicle as the finance company.
E Sure recently asked me who was the registered owner, finance company, registered keeper, me.
He didn't like that answer and liked it even less when i pointed out that a V5c is purely a record of who is responsible for road tax and suchlike. I did quote it verbatim but don't have a V5c at hand to do it now.0 -
I have this issue at the moment, looking to go bankrupt with my OH but earlier this year my van blew up whilst in hospital and as I work and my OH is long term sick, he has a mobility car, I needed a vehicle for work, my mum kindly offered to purchase another van which I could use until we could afford our own. As my mum uses a mobility scooter it is a dual purpose vehicle which I can help her get around in, my problem is that the V5 is in my husbands name as he went to collect the van but the sales receipt is in my mums name and she withdrew almost half of the cash out of the bank the same day to finance the van and the remainder was from her savings at home. I have had conflicting information regards who's asset it would be classed as, I would be devastated if they took the vehicle. My mum purchased it for £1200, has anyone had this issue and what was the outcome, really stressing at the moment.0

From what I understand,if your mum can evidence ownership - bank statements, receipts etc then it is not your asset and can not be touched by the OR.0

Thank you for your reply, yes the receipt is in my mums name from the seller with her details, the date and purchase amount ,(bought private) and also a substantial cash withdrawal on the same day as the purchase and completion of the V5 document.
Just hope that it is proof enough for the OR.
Even thought of changing the V5 document into mums name but not sure how this would be seen by the OR, don't want to create any problems as the whole process has stressed me enough already, mum only bought the van so I wouldn't have to worry about it whilst recovering from my operation and now it just appears to be a huge issue all because my OH never give it a thought about the V5 document and neither did I.0
