DCA refusing final payment lump sum without income details

Hello,I am posting for advice as I am a little confused by Arrow Global.

I have a catalogue debt with them which I have been paying at £5 per week for about a year or so. As it's now under £100, I thought I'd pay it off but when I spoke to them today they said they'd have to take my income and expenditure details to "ensure my payment wouldn't cause financial hardship". I said I didn't want to do this , I hopefully will never have any dealings with them again and don't really want them to have anymore details than the already have.

I wanted to just change my usual weekly amount to the outstanding balance and sent it by standing order but now I'm worried that there'll be a problem with this as I haven't complied with their "rules".

Can they actually insist on this if I just want to pay the balance off?

I expect if you have disposable income then they are hoping to wack on a load of extra interest and charges

  • That's what I'm worried about. I haven't tried to reduce the amount so will be paying in full. They said its a requirement by every company now but I've never heard of it before.

Can I just send the full amount, cancel the standing order and forget about it then?

  • Write to them asking for settlement. Make payment. Ignore these goons. End of.
  • Write, ask for a current balance and statement as entitled under OFT guidelines.

Once you have it, pay the bill.

Any extra fun and games, formal written complaint and FOS/OFT if needed.

They talk crap. Arden have pulled this stunt with me. Said we are not trying to get more out of you, want I and E to make sure its affordable to me. They have not been fussed about it for over a year and if I couldn't afford it they wouldn't be getting it!

  • Thanks for clarifying, I was given a balance over the phone so will just pay and cancel standing order. Thanks again for your help.

For all they know you might have been given the money by a friend/ family member, had a bonus at work or had a tax rebate which was sufficient for you to pay this but which didn't mean a change in your income.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
