Iceland obviously does a lot of frozen food but they have some good prices on other things too eg 20 full size sponge scourerss, £1, Burgen loaf 800g £1 (1.50 in Waitrose !), Branston/ Piccallilli £1 each (Piccalilli 89p dearer in Tesco when not on offer), and 4 kitchen rolls £1.
You could buy food that is frozen but needs to be defrosted before use/cooking. Their cheese is cheap and they often have offers on stuff like Leerdammer which is good for sandwiches. If you look carefully you can find additive free food in Iceland.
Lidl has some additive free food, free range chicken and even a few organic items eg milk, yogurt, pasta, cheese, biscotti, onions, bananas and carrots.0 -
Do you like Indian food? I think it's the best way to get amazing veg food and at cheap prices.
ie 2kg of red lentils ranges in price at the mo from about £2.50 - £4.00 - if you make lentil dahl you can easily get 40 - 60 portions out of this 2kg:), more if you mix with split chickpeas. I estimate it costs me about £0.30 a portion of dahl.
The same applies to all other pulses and dry chickpeas.
I bought 2 big caulis from the market the other day at £1.50 each, added in some potatoes and got at least 20 portions of cauli and potatoe curry - about £0.25 per portion.
Make loads and freeze individual portions - viola you have your own ready meal - I can't stress how much a good freezer will help save you money.
If you have Asian shops near you use them - they are so much cheaper than a supermarket.0 -

Aldi & Lidl do free range eggs at a comparatively reasonable price too.The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

New Zealand lamb is grass-pastured and as NZ is a GM free zone, the lamb isn't fed on GM feed whereas all non-organic lamb in UK can be fed on GM feed, whether it's Red Tractor or not.
Lidl used to sell fantastic NZ fresh lamb chops but has switched to British.
Sainsbury's has frozen Basics New Zealand lamb chops 800g for 4.99 which is fine for stews but not the same quality as the Lidl ones were. Sainsbury's also has frozen NZ lamb mince 500g 3.49
Aldi has Holme Farm NZ half leg of lamb 5.89/kg.
Waitrose does part boned NZ lamb whole leg (1.85kg) for £16 and 250g NZ lamb neck fillets for 3.69 and they're not bad.0 -
Our Welsh lamb is grass fed too. They're all over the place here. Even had some visit our garden a few times when the cattle grid was being replaced!0
