Remove the postcode, its irrelevant and could get your friend in trouble if they trace it back.
It sounds like the employer is trying to do something similar to annualised hours but really as you say they are a shoddy company to work for.
The GP can only recommend she can work 39 hours but the employer doesn't have to accept this so she would then either have to go sick or work the hours.
She needs to leave but unfortunately she has to make this decision. I would certainly suggest she keeps strong records of hours work and alike so that if it does go legal at a later date she has some good evidence.
You can opt out of working more than 48 hours a week but if she does is she likely to keep her job? Also, that is an average over 17 weeks I believe so some weeks she can be well over if the average stays under 48Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. And I am quite sure should would if there was any alternative employment. Unfortunately we are on the coast in a depressed town with thousands unemployed. She has the handicap of poor English. Many East Europeans in her position are grateful to have a job at all, and the employers take advantage of this situation and use it to exploit vulnerable, desperate people.0 -
