    Thanks for details,

the court is in northampton and i live in hertfordshire (just north of london) do i actually have to go there or can i get details over the phone?

You SHOULD be able to get details by phone, but if you get any problems, go to your local county court, explain the problem and give them details. Northampton is the 'fast-track' court, favoured by debt collectors, and creditors, but you should still have received a summons, and you should have had the opprtunity to request that the case be heard at your local court.

Thanks Rog2, that's interesting. I don't remember hearing that before.

I also wondered if you could enquire via your local court as it is all HMCS after all.

I have received two summonses from Northampton, one of which I was too late to have transferred, but I must admit that I found my local court office to be very helpfull. This was in 2002, but I would expect them to be at least as helpfull now.

It's no problem to phone Northampton and get at least basic info (dates, amounts, name of creditor). Try 0845 408 5302.

Then you'll know what you're dealing with.
  • thanks for all the replies

intresting that northampton seems to be a fast track court would explain how it happened so quickly..

Northampton is the court used for MCOL (Money claim online) - if you contact them you can have the case transferred to your local court, if that will make things easier for you.

Northampton is the County Court Bulk Centre. Do you have the claim number of the case on your credit report. Northampton do not have a search facility and so will be unable to trace your case without it. Do not phone your local county court as our computer systems are not linked up and we will have no information if it has not been transferred to that corurt. Court staff are very helpful so you should have no probs getting the info from them. Let us know what you find out or if you need further help x

The claim number is usually quoted on the credit report - at least it is on the hard copy!
  • thanks for all your replies,

i called the county court and they confirmed it was for the argos card,

lady was very nice and aslo could not understand why they took it to court for a judgement when she could see the file clearly stated that i no longer lived at the address!!!

gave me a telephone number to dispute it and get the judgement set a side although i think i may be better biting my tounge and just paying it within the 30 days to get it removed...

Thanks for all your help :)

Yes but why pay the court charges if you don't have to. Get it set aside and then pay the original outstanding amount, without the court costs....
