  • Has anyone heard of or used oz-pay.com? They seem to only charge a £7 fee and offer competitive exchange rates for transfers to Australia.

Not mentioned on here (AFAICS) is the Co-operative Bank. I have a Pathfinder account with them and can transfer (out of my P/f account) sums (in Euros) to my bank account in France.
It is called a Tipa-net transfer, costs £8 and arrives in about 3-4 working days. The exchange rate I find acceptable - if the Ceefax rate shows say 1.46, I would expect to get around 1.43. And no charge is made by my French bank.
Phone a Co-op bank to check the rate and compare.
Last time I used Moneycorp, I liked the service, the exchange rate was rather better than the Co-op bank but the impact of their £15 charge meant there was little difference in the net result.
I also found their system of faxing an agreement to the transfer onerous - it cost me an extra couple of quid to do that via an agency in France. So I think I may go back to the Co-op next time, once I have ploughed through all the recommendations on this thread!

Why pay £8 to Coop bank if you can get it for £1.30 at Moneybookers? Who are likely to give you a better exchange rate, too? Admittedly, it is likely to take a couple of days longer with Moneybookers, and you can transfer max £18K in 60 days. But I think it's ideal for somebody who wants to transfer money to their own bank account in euroland.

Innovate: thanks for that. I had almost decided to go with 4Xcurrency as their exchange rate is excellent and no charges but just had a look at
    Moneybookers for interest.

Two things I don't understand. They talk about sending funds to people/concerns with e-mail addresses. How does that square with sending funds to a bank a/c? Surely it's IBAN etc details they would need? I think I've had a look at everything on MB's site but I saw nothing about funds from your MB a/c to your foreign bank a/c.

Is the exchange rate that they are currently using available on their website in any way - to avoid doing a transaction blind?

On my visit the only charge figure I noted was a maximum of €0.50. Where does your figure come from (not that it is very material!)?

innovate - I've found out how to accesss the exchange rate they use (which is actually fantastic!) but not about the bank xfer. I've e-mailed them but no reply yet.

I've had another go at the moneybookers website, assuming that I have missed something obvious. But I can find absolutely NO indication of how to xfer from the MB a/c to a foreign bank account, surely the most common of transactions and requirements.
I find it infuriating and I'm not usually so impatient. Innovate are you there?
    I wouldn't fancy paying 25p a minute to phone them either - that's a bit naughty.

I've sorted out these problems with the great help of innovate.

moneybookers looks very promising and has risen in my estimation higher than the others I've used/looked at - co-op bank, moneycorp and 4X.

Not gone the whole hog yet with an actual xfer but it's looking good.
  • I have a query relating to transferring money from the UK to a Sterling account abroad. Since it is all in Sterling, I imagine that I can't use foreign exchange companies. Is there anyway I can avoid, or reduce, the 30 odd pounds it costs to make a one-off payment from my HSBC account in the UK to my Barclays account in Ghana?

    Thanks very much.

I've been looking for this too - I'm obviously missing something you've spotted... where did you obtain their rate from?

    Cheers
