Yes, Arrow will bully anyone into paying if they think they can get away with it, even if it's clear it was never their debt. As you say, they also just go after anyone of a similar name. Utter scumbag of a company.

Make them prove the debt. If they can't then your partner can tell the to sod off!

    Hi

If your partner does not know what the debt relates and the debt collector hasn't provided any proof of the debt then stopping payments whilst they ask for some proof or documentation is reasonable.
Sending the prove it letter is a sensible step. Then once they have sent proof she can decide on whether it is her debt or not.
Tell her not to speak to them on the phone again and that if they call her after she stops payments just ask them to put everything in writing and hang up.

If it is proved not to be her debt then she could try to get the debt collector to refund the payments made to date, how successful that is likely to be I don't know.

In the meantime she might want to get copies of her credit files to see if there is any record of this debt on them.

Just the statutory reports to see if the debt or any searches etc shows on those - £2 from experian and equifax but free from noddle.

Very true, I'd imagine you might well have to to get money out of these.

  • Small claims court if its not her account and they refuse to refund with expenses and a decent sum for stress etc.

    That will teach them...
