I've had my flu jab....

I get very poorly soon after the flu jab every year. Aching joints, flu type symptoms, depression, it really drags me down. I know they say that the jab cannot give you flu but whatever it is I get, it gets my winter off to a bad start.
I haven't had it yet this year. I do have to pay but that is neither here nor there in my decision. I have been adamant that I won't after previous experiences but the fact that I look after my three little grandchildren who are now at school/nursery, might influence my decision not to.
It is a dilema.0 -
I've go mine booked, I'm asthmatic so I get it free, as a result I haven't had Flu for 22 years.

I'm asthmatic, so I'm entitled to a free jab.
I got it at my GP's surgery, where they had a free jab day. Patients were allowed to roll up, announce themselves to the receptionist and were jabbed on a first-come-first-served basis.
I also work for two hospital trusts. One has a 'flu clinic that runs through October courtesy of OH. They announce when and where they are open and people can queue up on a first-come-first-served basis.
The other not only runs a similar arrangement, they also have roving teams of 'jabbers' who will call on the different departments on different days to mop up those who don't officially volunteer.
I've had to fill in two questionnaires explaining why I don't want a 'flu jab and submit them to two different OH departments.
I have no excuse for avoiding the jab and no need to pay even if I wasn't asthmatic. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -

Who in their right mind is going to go to the CO-OP, or Asda or any other supermarket for an injection?
Far better to get a qualified nurse or doctor to give you an injection than a supermarket employee.0 -

It is because he will be 65 in January. Anyone who is 65 before 31 March 2014 is entitled to a free flu.0 -

If you have a GP appointment for any other purpose, it's worth saying, "Can you give me a flu jab while I'm here?". My experience (before I became a 'target group') was that they'd rather do it and be done with it and not bother charging.
They're normally happy to have as many people immunised as possible: they get a fee from the NHS anyway for administering the flu jab, and it's been shown that people who are immunised create less demands on GP time during the winter with other URT (upper respiratory tract) infections, so it's a win-win.
Depends what area you are in, actually the GP only receives the said fee if you are entitled to it, if they just give it to you with no justification ie being over 65 or in an "at risk" group they do not get paid.0 -

Oh thanks! So next year mine will be free as I am 65 in January 2015.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
