mortgage application help??

I went to see a mortgage adviser at the bank this morning, me and my mum are buying a house to get me on the property ladder as she now owns her house out-right
My side of the application as fine and we have 20% deposit, which they were fine with.
BUT, my mum had a CCJ against her aboout 12 or 13 years ago, to which they declined the application straight away. Its not on her credit rating anymore so should it really make a difference? were they right to take that into account when it was so long ago?
And if not, what can i do as they are adamant they wont give me a mortgage when her name is on it - i also work for this company so i dont want to have to go elsewhere as i get a VERY preferential rate with them.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks

What else is on her credit file?
I suspect this is not about an ancient CCJ.

Nothing else at all, it was my dads fault she had a CCJ anyway, everything else was fine on hers and iv build up a good credit rating. the guy said to me, that is the only reason, it gets automatically declined if anyone has ever had a CCJ no matter how old - the deposit was 20% so the LTV is obviously 80% (its technically 79% though)0
