Council Tax at time of BR

Hi
Could someone help with clarifying the position re council tax and bankruptcy please?
I moved out of my mortgaged home last month and am now in a rental. I told the council this and they confirmed that I am still liable for CT on my mortgaged house until it is repossessed (no court date yet).
They then transferred my CT benefits to my rental address and have sent me a full CT bill for the mortgaged house for the period October 2013 to March 2014.
Am I right in thinking that I cannot include the CT bill for my old house in my BR until I've gone into arrears?
They've stated that my first instalment is due on 7 November. So I suppose I'm not technically in arrears until then.
There's no way I can pay £30 a month between now and March, especially if BR. The mortgage company hasn't started proceedings yet, so it could be well into the new year before I'm free from CT liability.
What do I do?
Many thanks.

Hi,
You are responsible for CT for the period from your BR to whenever the property is reposessed (any previous arrears will have fallen into your BR).
Have the council applied any discounts as some councils still offer discounts for either empty properties or second properties although there is no longer any standard discount.0 -
I'm afraid I concur with Gaz.
Are you BR at the moment?BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -

I think the council tax can only be included in bankruptcy once a liability order has been granted, is there any possibility of delaying your bankruptcy till the liability order has been granted?
Is the council tax in your sole name? If it's in joint names the other person will become liable for the whole amount.

Hi Everyone,
Many thanks.
I'm not BR at the moment, but intend to be by the end of next week.
My CT is in my name only at the 'old' address, so it would just be my liability.
I don't have any arrears from previous years (nor indeed this year's at the moment).
I really don't want to delay going BR, but I don't see how I can possibly pay nearly £400 by the end of March 2014 to the council. My CT 'benefit' has been shifted to my new property.
I thought I had this all sorted, but now it looks like I'll be in debt even when I go BR.0 -

You can't include council tax until the right to pay in instalments has been lost (not necessarily liability order granted), so it might take a little longer after 7 Nov.
Sure you can't delay your BR?0
