Unpaid Debt

cant find a more appropriate thread for this so please feel free to redirect me!

i work with disabled students at university and in order for me to get paid the student has to sign the time sheet

one particular student who is not local to me has been saying she would sign the form for four months, Student Finance are refusing to pay out some £800 for the work ive done

my question is how do i get this money paid as SFE are saying its not their responsibility, the student is now refusing to communicate with me and is from abroad so is likely to leave the country

Don't know, but if there is a lesson to be learnt it is this. Get your students to sign the timesheet before you give them their service. No sign, no service.
  • yes, i usually do this and sods law is that on this occasion i didnt!

could i persue this via small claims or money claim online (though not sure what this is and how it works etc)?

If the disabled person is fit to be legally responsible for themselves then maybe, but it would be a civil matter and it would be your word against theirs.

I think you are probably either going to have to take this one on the chin or try to work something out with Student Finance and the University.
  • i have skype and written records of our conversations and they are legally responsible just very disorganised (which is why i was working with them)

In which case you could use MCOL, however you will have to pay a fee, and there is no guarantee a judge will rule in your favour and even if he does i'm not sure what chances of actually getting your judged payment out of the student actually is. You need to take this up with Student Finance, not the student in my opinion.

Sue the University and make the student a witness under subpoena?
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
