Excellent spot, as you say for the money, not a bad spec.

it can't be done from here so you will need to ask the Board Guide of Shop but don't drop to do it for you :)

I bought the Pikaone @ £29.99 from Amazon and its still in its box never used, Just after I bought it I bought a new dell with a DVD writer in it hence no reason for it now. Stuck it on ebay for what I paid as it is still cheap and never got any bids. What a waste of money.

    Might try a carboot instead.

Need to get a faster DVD writer (got a shed load of 8x disks but only a 4x drive) and thought I might as well get a dual-layer whilst I’m at it. This one seems quite a bargain but have been looking at the NEC 3520A for £35 (£40 for a black one + about a fiver p&p) at SVP as well http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/drivescddvd.html
The NEC obviously has faster speeds but is it worth the extra £10?
Has anyone got any idea which one I should go for and how they compare to the Pikasone? (If caverncity would like to sell their surplus one at cost + p&p then I might be interested in buying that!!!)

The NEC3520A is one of the best DVD writers available at the moment. Personally I would pay the extra £10 for it (I have the slighlty older 3500A myself). The £10 will buy you better compatibilty with software and blank media as well as better support and build quality from NEC.

BTW, the NEC 3500A will write the very cheap eBuyer 8X Orange top DVD-Rs at 12X reliably. It's likely that the 3520A will do the same.

Thanks for that Berwhale - I have seen good reviews for the NEC so think I'll plump for that one - unless anyone else has any other opinions they'd like to share.....................
