Letter from 1st Credit

Hi everyone,

Just looking for some guidance here. I have a couple of old debts dating back to 2001 so they're well and truly expired. However, 1st Credit have sent me a letter stating that my address has been supplied as a possible address for their 'subject' (ie me). Now having read thread forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?p=304722 (remove the space - they wont let me post links) it seems they're a shady bunch to say the least so I'm not keen to contact them and certainly not on the phone. Any contact will be by letter only.

They have stated that not receiving a response within 10 days will lead to further letters, and no doubt they'll be trying every trick in the book.

Reading thread forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?p=692417 has shown me that my debt is definitely barred, and shows a possible response but that is slanted more towards the direct letter about a given debt. They're obviously being sneaky here by not specifically saying there is a debt so that I'll ring them up and they can bully/pressure their way into things.

So.. what to do? Any advice guys? I'd like to write to them to inform them that the debt is statute barred, but I am concerned that this may unleash a hailstorm of crap.

Thanks, fcv.

PS apologies for non-clickable links, it wont let me post links, but copy paste should work

    Hey!

could you send them a letter stating that you have no knowledge of this debt and asking them to send you details of it.

If/when they do this - then you could respond with the statute barred response?

sorry - wrote it very quickly!!! I mean the 'prove it' letter!! :)

    Hope that helps?

Do not reply and let them waste their time. It is barred but it does not stop them trying it on - do not respond - do not pay anything.
  • Just ignore for now. They are fishing.

If they send you something more convincing, send them the prove it letter then the statute barred letter if required.
