Debt Relief Order Advise/Information

Hi
I'm new to this so please bare with me....(1st post)
I'm currently in the process of getting my paperwork together for a DRO advised by StepChange. Just waiting on the credit report to come back so I can send it all off.
I've never missed a payment before and this is the first month I've not be able to pay my creditors due to our housing/council tax benifit being cut. No fault of our own must I add, I've just chosen to go back to work and now seem to be worst off!
I have 7 creditors in total - credit cards/personal loan/store card/catologs totataling up to almost £10,000.
My question is what do I do about token payments? I've been advised to pay all creditors a £1 token payment. Do I send them now? Or wait unti I've sent off my documents to Step Change?
I'm also terrified of the letters I'm going to get from missing my payments....any advise to keep me on the positive side would be grateful.
One minute I feel a weight has started to be lifted but then I worry so much about what I have to come :S
