Scottish Power Can't Accommodate Me....

I called SP this morning to express interest in switching dual-fuel from BG. I explained that I have TWO meters for electricity one of which is a redundant Economy 7 meter but that BG have been able for the past 5 years to aggregate the readings from both meters to provide me with a single charge for electricity. SP told me that their systems would not permit this and that therefore I could not be accommodated in this regard....

    Cool story bro!
  • I live in a block of 12 flats built in 1968 we only have electricity and two meters. Most of us are with Scottish Power but are unable to register on their website because they say they can only manage it with 1 meter per address. Also there is only one other company which will accept us with our 2 meters so price comparison doesn't really work for us. I have tried complaining to the Ombudsman over both issues without success.

The OP is referring to the fact that with Economy 7 metering, Scottish power cannot accommodate a non-economy 7 tariff. i.e. BG and E-on (and some other companies?) will add the consumption totals from both meters and treat as a single total on a 24/7 tariff.

Your situation is different as two separate meters will have different MPAN numbers.

However SP will supply an Economy 7 tariff. So I don't understand why 'price comparison doesn't really work'. Or are you saying SP won't let you have an internet tariff?

I have Economy 7 with SP - albeit with one meter with two registers - and on the comparison websites I simply enter my total electricity consumption with the percentage used at off-peak rates.
  • I called BG and asked them to kindly remove the redundant Economy 7 meter and replace it with a single electricity meter as its presence was inhibiting my ability to change supplier. Not unsurprisingly, they stated that this was not possible as such and that I would just have to wait until my area is chosen for replacement with smart meters. The BG representative expressed surprise that the accounting systems of organisations such as Scottish Power and M&S were not capable of adding two figures together....

In the end I switched from BG Online Energy to BG Fixed Price October 2014 Tariff.

I wonder if the Energy Ombudsman would be interested in my experience?
