Powdered Milk?.... what brand is YOUR favorite?

Options
I'm getting my winter stock in order and it's time to decided on what brand/own brand powdered milk/coffee whitener...etc is the preferred choice for most people. It'll be for tea and coffee mostly that I'm interested in, as an ingredient I can work around/with it with spices and creative thinking ;) .
I prefer to use watered down evaporated milk but the OH hates it, he also hates the Te*cos own brand powdered milk I used last year. So barring Te*cos own and UHT (no space for loads of cartons) which one do YOU prefer?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Marvel mixes well even in hot drinks it's dearer but I think worth it! and I hate powdered milk!
  • I usually use Aldi own brand
I love MSE freebies and comps. Thanks posters
  • I'm a bit fussy about powdered milk the only one that I find remotely resembles milk is Nido powdered milk and its full cream. A bit pricier but worth it as it tastes pretty good made up as fresh milk substitute when you run out. Not tried it straight in tea or coffee though. Might give it a try. I usually get it in the ethnic isle in asda atabout £3.60 for 400g. Its a great standby eapecially when you have kids!

Then why do you use it?

Sorry guys, not trying to be funny - just wondered why anyone uses this stuff?

Is it because you sometimes get snowed in in winter? Is it something to do with cost?

Genuinely want to know. Kind of curious to get some in to try (but can't honestly ever remember a time in my life when I couldn't get hold of some actual milk).
  • I did originally post this in the OS forum (had been reading 'winter prep 2013'), it's mainly for when you get snowed in as I've been hearing that this might be another snowy winter.

I couldn't get out the last time it snowed and the powdered milk we had turned out to be rather nasty in coffee and tea. I ended up using in mashed potato just to use it up.

We use Tesco Dried milk always for everything.
Scritti - The reason we use it is because it costs about 15p a pint and we are on basic OAP (no rent allce, no tax credits, no supplimentary benifits - just paying for dental treatment, specs, and full council tax- so it's Tesco Dried or nothing - you soon get used to it when there isn't an alternative ! jac. x

Ha ha -- I misread that at first glance! I thought for a second you were saying that the powdered milk was so bad that you used mashed potato in your coffee! :rotfl:

I used to use sainsburys basics - at the time it was cheaper than the aldi version but it came in a bag which was a bit awkward to use (get aldis in a tin then just refill it) . I don't drink milk anymore so don't need it, but found it best to put a bit of cold water in with the ,ilk at the bottom and giive a good stir before topping up with hot water otherwise ti rose to the top
