Medical Loans

Hi does anyone know of any good company's who can provide finance for a medical procedure I require outside of the UK well it is in Mexico and I still work so re-payments are not a problem. The surgery is not cosmetic but it is Angioplasty + stem cell treatment. Please can anyone give me some advice or is it just a case of getting a loan from the bank and the amount I require is $20,500.00 USD which is about £12,800. Thanks James

if you meet lenders criteria for a 13k loan i.e. credit history, income employment etc then just apply for a personal loan

The angioplasty can be done on the NHS.

Stem cell treatment is experimental, so I doubt anyone will lend you money for a non-essential medical requirement.
  • Why are you going to a dodgy place like Mexico for a serious procedure?

  • Thanks all for reply I work for the NHS and cannot have this procedure done over here and as for mexico being dodgy it was working for the NHS I got to speak to one of the Dr's who works at the hospital at Cozumel and it puts the hospital where I work to shame proper state of the art the only other place I could go to get this operation done is India which talking to some of my colleagues who are from India said don't even bother so it looks like a loan is the best option. Thanks James

If you really work for the NHS, you would know not to touch this with a bargepole.

  • You would need to arrange a substantial travel insurance premium for going abroad for surgery, and would have to declare that the NHS had refused to do the procedure. This isn't a nose job being done more cheaply elsewhere, so you'd require a very specialist insurance and you might find that would also cost a fortune, as an angioplasty is not usually done as a selective surgery and carries inherent risks. If your NHS provider doesn't think you need it, then you probably don't. If you are convinced, then ask for a second opinion in the UK, go private if you must for the consultancy, but listen to what the doctors tell you.

Stem cell treatement is still in research stages. There would be little point in going anywhere for this treatment at this point that is not part of a research programme.

Some loan applications specifically forbid being used for medical procedures because of the risk of complications leading to your inability to pay. You might need to speak to the hospital, or a private hospital that offer finance schemes to find something. Honestly, get a second opinion in the UK first.

  • No travel insurance policy will cover OP if he is going abroad for the purpose of hospital treatment.
So if it goes wrong you will be on your own money wise - could you afford that??
