Mobile phone renewal, should I sell?

Hi guys,

Mobile phone contract is up for renewal soon, I'm just considering whether or not I should try and get a free upgrade and then sell then handset and put towards debts? What do people think?

Also, has anyone ever unlocked a phone before selling? Or do you normally just sell as it comes in the box?

  • Hi Debt Clearer

My upgrade is due in december, out of contract in feb.

I'm thinking that getting a new phone is likely to keep my monthly bill quite high (i'm an iphone girl). Where as my current phone still works, has just got a small crack on the screen which happened a year ago and I can take 2/3 - 3/4 of my bill per month by going sim only. with near enough the same minutes text data etc and put the difference extra per month towards my debt.

Look on ebay etc and see how much ur phone is going for. If its upto around 6 months difference between what you pay on contract and sim only I would keep your phone. Unlocking can be really easy if your going to another provider for sim only I've done it with 2 different family phones. or see what deal ur current provider can do.

You can always go on a 30 day rolling contract or PAYG eg gifgaf and when cleared a bit more debt then go and get a nice shiny new phone and then sell ur old phone???

    Hope this helps
