You can not apply for this yourself - your employer needs to, and only certain employers are permitted to. It is now called DBS rather than CRB.

beware they MAY charge an admin fee, but as previous poster said you CANNOT apply for an enhanced one by yourself though you may be abe to get a basic one on your own.
I have heard of using an umbrella company to get one, but i don't know anything about this?My Signature is MY OWN!!0 -
The employer arranges for this to be conducted. Descent employers won't pass on the cost to you.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

And make sure that an Enhanced check is required. Mind you, the post doesn't require an Enhanced check and you point this out to them, they'll probably think you have something to hide. Such is the fantastic system they've created. It's now a multi-million pound industry with discounts offered to companies carrying out checks in large numbers. It wasn't meant to be like this.0

Inform your employer he needs to read up on a few basics.
They have to do a CRB or whatever they should pay for it and it is a tax deductible expense.
I take it they are new to the game of employing people.Be happy...;)0 -
And it should be sent to you and not the employer.0

Decent employers used to pay for it. Now that it's portable and is of more benefit to the individual as you don't need a new one each time, more companies are now asking for you to pay for your own - reputable companies as well as the dodgier ones. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Since June 2013 individuals can now apply for their own DBS certificate. You can also pay an annual fee for their up-dater service (I think it is £13 but check that) which ensures you always have an up to date DBS certificate. The certificate is portable and can be used by the individual for all purposes (ie they don't have to have fresh certificates for each new employer as in the past).

Thanks.
Have I got this right, you only apply for the Updater Service if you already have a DBS certificate?
I don't have a certificate. I'm a first timer.SECRET OF SUCCESS IN LIFE:
