    I love my job

I spent 12 years in a job I hated, tied to it financially. Then I had a breakdown and walked away from it

Now I'm on nmw, yet do a really satisfying job working with a great crowd of people, who are not just work colleagues but have become firm friends

I would never work where I wasn't happy ever again.

    Health or wealth, no brainer

It depends...but actually the time you spend on work is 80 % of your conscious life. This requires pleasant atmosphere at least. If you do something that you hate, it will become worse for sure! The problem here is that even you find your dream job...finally...sooner or later you'll be tired of it. So try to feel comfortable at work, as long as you there :)

It is no where near 80% of your life. A typical 9.5 job is only 20.80% of the total hours in 7 days.

I can't perform if I don't enjoy the place I'm working at. although my favourite reason for liking this one is leaving in two weeks :(

It is more like 36% of your conscious (I assume by that you mean awake time) life.
But anyway, I would say you have to enjoy what you do as to spend a third of your awake time doing something you do not enjoy will make you miserable. Having said that I am sure having a rubbish job must be better than having no job/money to do anything else.

I left a job years ago which i did not enjoy as much as I used to, retrained and now do 2 jobs (related to one another) which I think even after years of doing them are the best jobs that I have ever had. I love every minute of them, cant wait to get to work some mornings and can see achievements, and successes in what I do.
The money is not too bad too even if I took a paycut initially when I retrained and actually started what I do now.

I work for my paycheck, not because I enjoy it. But I think all jobs have ups and downs, so i won't gamble on taking a pay cut to do something that might be more enjoyable. The grass isn't always greener. For a while i think it is fine to suck it up to meet other goals (pay down on mortgage and save up for having children). But I really value being financially stable and try to do things that will pay off in the long run. My hope is to get in a good position first, before (hopefully) doing some more enjoyable stuff later.

I think it stands to reason that I mean the time you DO NOT spend sleeping :) Also, I mean the big number of people who work extra hours to get enough money.

It would be nice if work was fun and rewarding, and lead to better things in life, and there was always light at the end of the tunnel, but work isn't like that and for most people never will be.

Having designed manual assembly stations with a 15 second target assembly time, for up to 50 assembly operators, I've concentrated on mistake proofing, and ease of task and removal of repetative strain risks, but I've never worried if people enjoy the work.

Personally, I've developed the belief that you come to work, do the best job, you can, and the fun is how you choose to live your life.

This is very true and thinking any different just leads to disapointment, Just accept its !!!!! and get on with it.
  • Ill admit I loathe my job I absaloutly hate it but I do get the odd day where it's enjoyable

The main thing that gets me down is the travelling being stuck in a jam on the m6 at half 6 on a Friday evening whilst trying get home is shear depressing after starting work at 4 in the morning

I've been in my current job for only six weeks, I was in my previous job for 3.2 years. I was'nt happy and had been looking for a new job for a good year before I got this opportunity.
My old job was well paid for what I did but well below the so called national average. I wanted a job where there would be opportunities for promotion, a job where there's more interaction with other colleagues and also a job that was closer to home.
After having a couple of hard weeks I'm really quite enjoying my new job. I've already done stuff out of work with three other colleagues as we share a hobby. This is what I was missing in my former job, I'd just be out on the road all day on my own and when I was back on site nearly everybody was miserable.
Money is important to me as I have bills to pay but I don't put it way above my own happiness. I can't think of many things worse than dreading to go to work each morning
