ginger cake with fruit as a christmas cake?

I love the costco gingercake (its about £10).
I dont like heavy black fruitcakes.
I was thinking of making a gingercake as my christmas cake, fondant iced & all.
Anyone seen any gingercake recipes that incorporate dried fruit? Sultanas & dates are favourites of mine, I like nuts too.
Any tips for icing? Would I apricot glaze & marzipan it? Would it last well?
