Christmas Carol Concerts

Just wondering if you good people could help me with some ideas.

If you were attending a Christmas Carol Concert and there was a soloist to be accompanied by a pianist.

What sort of songs would you like hear?

Asking as I've been asked to sing at a few this Christmas but really stuck with what to sing.

O little town of Bethlehem, the holly and the ivy.

Do they have to be traditional carols? If it's an option, I'd maybe mix it up with some more contemporary numbers.....I mean, maybe not wizzard or things like that but 'I'm dreaming of a white christmas' and songs of that vein could be really nice, and a break from the traditional/religious songs.

Familiar stuff. I have accompanied the kids on a school carol concert around our village and there's been one or two songs that I've thought 'never heard of this'. Of course you aren't going to know what everyone has heard of, but you'd know if a carol is well-known or not.

If you are a good enough singer, which I'm assuming you are otherwise you wouldn't be a soloist then Silent Night. That's one of those songs that I think stand out with a good singer and is murdered by people who sing like I do :D and shouldn't attempt it.

The other thing I'd consider is your accompany musical instrument. I adore 'The Little Drummer Boy' but I think the pa, ra, pa, pa pum sounds better from a choir or with a different instrument to the piano.

No they don't have to be traditional carols which is why it is so hard to choose. But they Church and Chapels I would be singing in only have piano we can use for accompanying me.

I like I'm dreaming of a White Christmas.

Thank you spendless. Silent Night is a favourite of mine and not wishing to be big headed but yep I'm not a bad singer. I'm a mezzo soprano and during the summer sang some things from Les Mis at a concert and some people who were there asked me to sing at their Christmas Carol Concert so I can't be that bad!

Think Latin might be a bit full on for the audience plus my Latin is rubbish lol
