I thought I had cleared all the debts showing on my Equifax & Experian credit profile but I just checked noddle and turns out there is a British Gas one from 2009!
Its for £256 not a huge amount but im currently not working and in receipt of contribution based JSA which will run out in 3 months! My husbands wage supports 3 of us JUST!
I just had to borrow £1030 from my mum to pay off a lot of debts and I just made a settlement with Advantis Credit for another British Gas one.
I don't know who this British Gas one is with now and I haven't had any letters in god knows how long.
Im sure it was originally sitting about £500 because I used to pay £50 a month and I think that was British Gas.
They have no contract or anything signed by me so is there any way I can get out of this without paying the £256??????
This is what it says on noddle:
Account type
Gas - even payment
Account number
***************4482 0
Account holder status
Gone-away
Account start date
18/11/2009
Payment start date
18/11/2009
Repayment frequency
Monthly
I don't understand the "gone away" bit

Gone-away likely means they think you no longer live at the address they have on file for you; is that the case?
When did you last make a payment? It will be statute barred 6 years after you last paid/acknowledged the debt in writing. So if you haven't paid since 11/2009, it will be barred in 11/2015, meaning they can no longer pursue you for it in court.
I don't think you'll be able to "get out of it" other than by waiting for the statute barred time. What will your verse be?

I honestly cant remember the last time but the balance has been £256 since 11/09 so I must have paid before then.....
I haven't lived at that addresss since 2010 but my other British Gas one for a previous address doesn't say that...
 I cant even contact anyone because I don't know who its with to do a settlement fee or anything, I just paid a British Gas one of today [STRIKE]Vanquis : £414.57 Capital One : £273.67 Littlewoods : £174.25 Very : £84.00 [STRIKE]Vanquis : £414.57 Capital One : £273.67 Littlewoods : £174.25 Very : £84.00

They probably think you live at the second previous address. That would explain why the first says gone-away but the second doesn't.
It's likely still with British Gas otherwise I would think your credit report would show the company that has bought the debt.
If you last paid before 11/2009 it will be even sooner that it goes statute barred. What does the account history on your credit report show? What will your verse be?

It been saying on the report since Sept 2009 on Noddle a red circle with a "6" in it and underneath "BB" and the balance has been £256 since sept 2009.
 I live in Scotland so its only 5 years till its statute barred[STRIKE]Vanquis : £414.57 Capital One : £273.67 Littlewoods : £174.25 Very : £84.00

They haven't defaulted you then, so it looks like they're just going to keep on reporting late payments until you get hold of them about it, at which point the 5 year timer will restart.
They should have defaulted you back in 2009, which would have meant that the account would drop off your credit report entirely after 6 years. Because they've been reporting 6 month late payments, even if you paid in full today the account would stay on your credit report for 6 years.
You'll need to get hold of them and make a complaint about them not having added a default, but if you do that they'll ask you for the money. So it's up to you whether you'd rather wait until it's statute barred before you resolve this. What will your verse be?

If I only have another 11 months till its statute barred I might as well wait wouldn't I?
Its not on Experian or Equifax just noddle? strange! otherwise I would have included it while I had the money 2 days ago when I cleared the majority of my debt.
is this a fly way to be able to not make it statute barred?[STRIKE]Vanquis : £414.57 Capital One : £273.67 Littlewoods : £174.25 Very : £84.00

Nah what they report to your credit report has nothing to do with it becoming statute barred.
It becomes time barred 5/6 years after the 'cause of action,' which basically means when you last paid or acknowledged the debt in writing. What will your verse be?

Noddle is part of CallCredit and I just seen this on the Bankruptcy part
 CallCredit
This is the least used of the CRF,s and they sell their information to a lot of the pay for your credit file companies, such as Annual Credit Report, Check My File.com, etc.
CallCredit is notoriously incorrect to say the least, so will form a separate section that will cover them and the main companies that they also sell to; so there will be several examples.
At present I urge people correcting their files to concentrate on Equifax and Experian and I will do an update when I get certain information back from CallCredit and the companies they sell to.[STRIKE]Vanquis : £414.57 Capital One : £273.67 Littlewoods : £174.25 Very : £84.00

Callcredit are better than they used to be when that was written, but yes, still true(ish) to some degree.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I might as well just leave it then.
I have never acknowledged anything in writing for this and it seems no payment was made since 2009....[STRIKE]Vanquis : £414.57 Capital One : £273.67 Littlewoods : £174.25 Very : £84.00
