Also a mate I shared an account with for bills about 5 years ago is a connection. Could this effect it (I think he had some money troubles) and if so how do I get rid of him ?

Thats bad too! I think you can apply to disassociate yourself.

not being on electoral roll , an association with another party , and going into overdraft every month ,

any one or all of the above could give lenders cause for concern

so many wanting to borrow , so little money to go round ,
banks being told to lend responsibly , all these things have a bearing on a decline or offer

We have had a mortgage accepted through Halifax but the amount is slightly more than the nationwide one which is a shame.

    Many thanks[/QUOTE]

if I was you I would take the Halifax offer and think yourself lucky

    Yes mortgage will be 1400
    Our combined income is 3800

    My od is 500
    Wife's 1000

Then you need to ask yourselves why you need overdrafts. In cold light from a distance, it appears as if you don't manage your money well. What contingency savings do you have, should your situation change suddenly.

I'm fairly sure you can disassociate yourself from your mate as long as there is no continuing financial relationship. You have to contact each agency that shows you as linked and request disassociation. I had to do this when a close relative living at the same address went bankrupt.
