End of first week's food diary & all went well until Wed & Thurs.
On Wednesday, we had cakes to celebrate a major software update to one of our products, so had an eccles cake with my morning cuppa and on Thursday a temp from production brought-in sweets 7 biscuits to celebrate his last day (he had landed a permanent job elsewhere).
Today got off to a bad start when I thought it was Saturday, so got up late for work so no breakfast.Never Knowingly Understood.

Week 2 - Keeping a regular eating pattern.
This week we studied the importance of keeping a regular eating pattern. A regular eating pattern is important as it 'programs' your body to accept food on a regular basis.
Why is this important ?. Well, if you eat irregularly (i.e miss breakfast or only eat when you feel hungry) then your body changes the way it handles the food you eat by turning as much as it can into fat. It does this because it no longer has any idea of when it will receive it's next batch of food.
In effect, it goes into starvation mode and your metabolism slows right down.
By keeping to a regular eating pattern, your body will 'learn' that it will receive a delivery of food at roughly the same time each day so will adjust the metabolism accordingly and so make more efficient use of the food, turning more of it into energy & less into fat.
What affect does this have in reality?.
By eating on a regular pattern your body produces energy at a more constant rate. This leads to an improvement in concentration & you will feel more 'awake'. Irregular eating patterns will lead to tiredness & a lack of concentration.
As well as eating regularly, it is important to eat breakfast as you will get almost all your daily requirements of vitamin B & calcium from this meal. Also, your body needs this meal to provide it with the energy it needs to 'power it up' from sleep mode.Never Knowingly Understood.

Week 3 - Keeping active.
This week concentrated on getting active. This does not mean joining the gym, but making small changes to your daily routine to include small amounts of exercise.
This might be something simple like using the stairs instead of the lift once a day or getting off the bus a stop earlier or even using the ad breaks to do some simple routines such as knee squats, wall press-ups or walking on the spot.
SMART target last week was to drink fresh juice for breakfast instead of tea for 2 days. Task achieved.
Additionally, on Wednesday I made the choice to stop having sugar in my tea. It does taste odd, but then it does take 22 days for the human body to reprogram itself to new tastes so not too worried.
