Out of date mix

Hi all,

Beef casserole in the slow cooker *os moneysaving* go me!

BUT I have a dumpling mix (bought because it was cheap a long time ago, and want to use it up) that is dated March 2013...should I use it?

Many, many years ago, my mum made dumplings and the suet was out of date/had gone off, and the taste of them stopped me eating them for about 30 years - no lie.

So, should I/could I?

Thanks

    Definitely use it.

I'm guessing it's one of those sachets of mix all sealed up. For things like that it's a 'best before' rather than a 'use by' where you need to be a bit more careful. Enjoy!!

I think it depends on the temperature it's been kept at - but you'll be able to smell if it's turned rancid.
  • It will be fine, I have used suet that was over a year old before now. The only things that I don't like when they are too far out of date are pasta and egg noodles, they don't cook up too well
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
