Locating an old debt

Hi there,

I have an old debt that Equidebt were dealing with on behalf of Lloyd's.

However, Equidebt have gone into administration and I can't find who has this debt.

They have an old address so it's not just a matter of waiting to see if I hear anything.

I've checked my credit file and it's saying its closed and was done so in March 2012.

Can anyone help how I can locate this? I've contacted Lloyd's and they don't have any record of this loan. I'm not sure what the close thing means on my credit file.

Many thanks.

Is the entry on your credit file in the name of lloyds or equidebt?

Have you checked all 3 credit files to see if a new DCA have put an entry on any of your files.

If the debt has been bought by another debt collector they will likely be able to trace you through your credit file addresses (assuming old and current address appear on your credit file).

If they are in administration than everything is dealt with by the Administrator. Unless you have been told different write to the last address you have been told informing them of your address change. then sit and wait. As long as you can prove you notified them of the address change it should protect you from anything in the future.
Unless the whole operation is sold as a going concern - If the amount you owe is not worth selling on it may just be written off as part of Equidebts bankruptcy. They are unlikely to inform you of this.

The other option could be do nothing, but dont hide. When a new company finds you and gets in touch eventually - they may not have all the necessary paperwork if you 'don't recognise the debt' and ask them to prove its yours.

    Hi both,

Thanks for the replies. I've checked all three credit companies and all say this debt was settled in April 2012. I did receive a letter in April 2012 demanding payment, but on this letter it stated the balance was £0. I don't want to take this as gospel, or can I on what the credit agencies are saying?

I just want to ensure it's sorted. I haven't heard anything from Equidebt after they sent the letter saying it was zero balance. I was at the address until May 2013 and didn't hear anything from them before I moved out.

    Many thanks

I also forgot to say that it does state the debt is in Lloyd's name and when I called Equidebt it states that their debts will be sold to Cabot. I've called them and they have no record either.

There are no other entries for this debt either for anyone on any of my credit reports apart fro Lloyd's.
