Can anyone give me advice?

Hi,

I was made bankrupt in May 2006 and then discharged in Oct 2006. Can anyone tell me how and where I can start obtaining credit.

Kerry

    Hi kerry,

I think most of the people on this forum have not got to that stage yet. Have you tried one of the Vanquis type cards where you pay an horrendous APR? If you use it regularly and pay it off in full every month it may well start to repair your credit history. Have you obtained your credit reports to ensure that they accurately reflect your discharged status?

    Regards

I've been discharged four years. Can't get a credit card, can't get a loan. Can get a mortgage and things like mobile phone on contract though.

Credit report from Experien and Equifax is a sea of green for the last 6 years - nothing missed and everything satisfied.
  • Sorry but why would you even want credit ? just the word credit makes me feel sick .... this BR thing has taught me a big life changing lesson ... if I haven't got the money in the bank ... I can't have it . I never want to feel the way i did before .

I don't. Wanted a credit card as I work away a lot and buy a lot online for my business, a Visa Electron wasn't suitable enough at the time, but with the intention of paying off every month in full. Did the loan as an exercise to see if I could get a loan.

I've amassed the thick end of £10k in savings since I banked so there's nothing I can see that I'm going to need to borrow money for. Got a Visa Delta with the business account as well so no need for a CC either.

As I said, it was more an exercise in curiosity than anything.

I understand that Capital One will offer a limited credit card to people as early as 6 months after discharge, although why anyone would actually want to deal with Capital One after reading posts about them, both here and on DFW, is beyond my comprehension.
Basically, though, all lines of credit can be pursued after discharge, but many will be denied until you have a clean credit file. Those that are available usually carry a high cost.

If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Yes but they won't help you rebuild your credit rating as you are paying upfront.

How about trying to get a contract mobile phone. Also I seem to remember someone suggesting taking money out of your account at a cash point then paying it back in the bank. The computers just track lots of good activity and you not going overdrawn. Apparantly it fools them. Don't know if it's true or not.

    You must be crazy,

When I was discharged, getting more credit was the last thing on my mind.

Sit back and enjoy being debt free for a while.

    Im'e luvvin' it.
