A.p.r. On Loans

Dear Money-savers,

I have recently applied for a loan with a High Street Building Society
(A&L) and was attracted by the t.v. adverts 6.3% a.p.r., however, although i currently am just finishing a loan with them at this rate, they now tell me the rate for me is 12.3% !!!
I have checked my credit rating with experian ( all excellent) and paid my old loan by direct debit each month without fail.
They are unable to explain this rate and now i know there is no negative credit history on my file (never has been), i wonder if any of you might explain this rather high rate... regards Annoyed.
