donky kong returns or super mario bros wii are two top games
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives.:j

My son loves all of the above + mario kart and he is a similar age.

So on that basis Mario kart.

Other possibility is pac-man party if you can find it.

Might make a difference although at the end of the day a cracking game is a cracking game.

As a rule of thumb anything by Nintendo (particularly anything featuring Mario) will be family friendly and worth a look although the prices for Nintendo's own games tends to stay a little higher.

I notice you already have both the Mario & Sonic Olympics games as well as Wii Sports.

If you are looking for more along these lines then I can recommend Sports Island (by Hudson) - lots of events and very cheap now.

If you want something multiplayer then I echo the suggestion of Mario Kart above. A truly excellent game and fun as a single player experience but also great fun for 2,3 or 4 of you.

Similar Kart Racing games to these are Sega Racing All Stars (pretty much a straight kart racer featuring famous Sega characters like Sonic etc and courses) and Sonic and Sega Racing All Stars Transformed (which is similar but has transforming vehicles hence the name so a single race will see your vehicle switch between kart/plane and boat) - both great fun!

Alternatively you wont go wrong with Super Mario Galaxy or Super Mario Galaxy 2 - both superb 3D platformers. Essentially single player games although a second player can help out by using a second Wiimote to grab helpful items and bonuses which may be good if you play together?

Any of the Lego games (Lego Batman, Lego Star Wars, Lego Harry Potter, Lego Lord of the Rings, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Pirates of the Carribean etc) are great fun too. Charming graphics bring the movies to life in that inimitable lego style and you can play drop-in/drop-out 2 player (so your child can play and you can join in and then if you need to you can drop out without them having to restart the level - helpful if the phone goes or dinner needs serving etc. Lots of fun and not too taxing.

As a left field choice maybe something like Samba De Amigo- this is a rhythm action game where you use the wiimotes as maracas and have to have them at the right height (high, medium or low) as the notes strike. A great party game, very colourful and lots of fun.

Any of the above are well worth a look and all should be very cheap. Usually between £5 and £20.

Of course there are lots of others so let me know more details (single player or multiplayer, whether you play together, budget etc)

Agree with most of the above, though the Galaxy games are likely too hard for 4yrs old

I would add WarioWare Smooth Moves: actually a set of lots of silly little games which can be played solo or with others (but only one controller needed). And will very much appeal to younger players (but still fun for adults).

Raving Rabbids (there are several titles) are also good for kids, but best with 2 or more players (and associated controllers)

    Thanks for all the suggestions!
Should have added in the original post that we already have mario cart on an old game cube!
We went for Super Mario Bros in the end..... just hope he likes it!
Will bear the other suggestions in mind for potential Christmas ideas, so again, many thanks!
