OK the paperwork I have is:
26/06/2013 A TV licensing Record of Interview (this is when they came to my door)
23/01/2013 Notice of fine and collection order from Magistrates Court for £141.
22/03/2013 I then attended court and agreed to pay £12 per week .
26/07/2013 : Notice of Attendance from Collectica
09/10/2013: Notice of Attendance from Collectica

That's is all the paperwork I have ever had.
First two dates are the wrong way round?

The thing you signed at the Record of Interview was you self-incriminating - admitting you have a TV and watch it without a licence.
Firstly, I'm really not going to sell my TV I don't know why you assume that
    kids get brainwashed?!
    Nevermind.
it's a bit of an unfair comment as I was asking for help with my debt situation
    not my lifestyle.
You wouldn't be in this situation if you didn't have a TV. Now you still have one you should still be paying for a licence which adds another outgoing to your household, but hey, if it's more important to you than going food shopping then fair play.
Plus I am renting my TV and am tied into a contract which I pay.I relax
watching my TV I honestly could not imagine a house without a TV so that's a no
    go.
So you're actually paying two lots of debt to watch TV. Like I said, I know which i'd prefer, but if you like not being able to go food shopping and prefer to see the TV as the real necessity then that's your prerogative. :)

To be honest, you need proper and urgent financial advice, because it's hard to make out what your situation is in reality without having access to the documents. What you've essentially done is signed the form the salesman (yes, they're salesmen, not 'officers') presented you with which is an admission. If you'd told him nothing and shut the door you'd have been fine. Because you've signed it though, your only options are to either bin your TV or keep paying it. If you want to keep paying it, offer reasonable payment and get advice from someone who's qualified. Good luck.

  • Vassa - I'm totally ignoring your comments now so please do not respond. We eat..like i said but we buy on a daily basis - I have other things I can go without should i need to such as my mobile phone/Credit, I could sell my car etc.I think to get rid of a TV is highly unfair on everyone in the household and I am now paying for a TV licence.
With reference to your comment "The thing you signed at the Record of Interview was you self-incriminating - admitting you have a TV and watch it without a licence" - Why should I lie? I am happy to pay for a TV licence if I am using a TV which is what I am doing now.

You have your opinion about TV brainwashing my children but it can also be very educating too which it has done to my children - they even watch it at school so it can't be that wrong!

The first date should read 2012 not 2013 - my mistake.

Anyway thanks for the help offered i'll perhaps try and attend my local CAB office but thats easier said than done.

You're the one who said you don't remember the last time you went food shopping, i was only going off what you said.

I never said you should lie, i'm informing you what actually happened when you had your 'interview'. They're salesmen and they made a sale to you.

    Just to clarify:

    - You don't need to get rid of the TV to get rid of the licence. You just need to stop watching/recording TV broadcasts. (I appreciate that if you haven't got much income, then getting decent broadband for Catch-up TV may not be an option).

    - When TVL call and "interview", the interviewee has many rights. TVL mention some of these and not others. You can: remain silent, ask for a solicitor to be present (though this would cost money), ask for a witness (say a neighbour), ask them to leave (which they must do immediately, or risk the Police being called).

In short, it is not illegal to lie to TVL, especially since they routinely lie and mislead the public in the first place.

And keeping silent/not answering their questions, isn't lying.

The people who come with the clip boards have ZERO power of anything. They are sales people, even the job adverts recruiting them sell the job as a sales job and publish OTE in the salary expectations. They've got no rights (as in rights that maybe someone like the police would have), no powers, no anything. You can say anything you like to them, they're as powerful as a door-to-door double glazing salesman.

Same applies to all BBC-TVL people, not just the sales-only staff.
You can say anything you like to them...
You still need to be careful about what you say to them. They are able to write down evidence to be used in Court.

Best advice: keep silent, or simply say: "Not today, thank you" and shut the door. Do not give or confirm your name, and most importantly, NEVER sign anything (even if you are told it is a record that they called, or similar).

That's the right response, Vassa's a troll. He'll try and provoke a response from you by respponding to you further, but the more people who ignore him, the sooner he'l leave, and the better the forum will be.

It's funny, he advises people to not respond to unwanted approaches, but doesn't like it when people do the same to him...

If disagreeing with most people makes me a 'troll' then i'm comfortable with that, although i am slightly concerned about how much you seem to be following me around John, who also is a banker despite posting on here at regular intervals throughout the day.
