New to comping - quick question?

Options
Hi

I'm fairly new to comping after winning an epic trip to Peru / Inca trail last year on FB. Now having found this forum I have gone comping mad in my spare time in the last couple of weeks. Just wondering how many comps the real dedicated compers enter on average per week / month please as wonder whether I'm really in with much chance of winning anything ? (I realise it's not actually down to how many you enter but I'm talking about the 'law of averages' possibility of winning) I can see some people seem to win quite a bit and just wonder how many comps they've entered on average to achieve this. (I've probably entered 250 -300 in the last couple of weeks)

Thanks

I would say I'm entering around somewhere between 150-200 a day plus the mag dailies. The only things I don't do are the majority of rafflecopter ones as find them too slow and a real pain. Only had one "proper" win in 6 months but was a nice handbag for the wife from a mag daily. Had a few things like cereal, chocolate bars but not much other than that.

Yep, those are the ones. Takes forever to complete them every day but I live in hope.

    Approx 200 a day
been doing them every day for last 3 months

    so 90 days x 200 entries a day = 18,000
    to date - 56 wins

So you are looking at a very low win ratio -- but as they say, you have to be in it to win it

    I enter about 150 - 200 a day. More if I can.
And then the dailies on top of that :)

I won loads when I started at the beginning of the year.
Took a couple of months break from comping due to a broken finger!
And since coming back from my break I've barely won a thing :(

I spend roughtly 3 hours per day which is all I can fit in now. I used to have more time and I noticed the number of wins were higher but heyho. Don't know how many comps that equates to but it feels like lots. Sometimes I get around to doing dailys but not always.

Dreading Christmas and the advents as I'll never manage half of them if there are as many as last year.

Back in March-May of this year, I was doing probably 2-300 per day and winning a couple of prizes a week (sometimes more, sometimes less). Then I got a full time job and didn't have the time, so I only entered comps occasionally and wasn't winning anything......

.....until a pair of sunglasses showed up about 2 weeks ago and reginited my interest. I also recently won some tea from clipper tea (from the code found on the box) and a couple of chocolate bars from cadburys (again from codes inside the packaging). So now I'm trying to fit in as many as I can in lunchtimes, evenings and weekends! The bug got me again! lol

Wow that's loads of competitions and I guess loads of chances to win.

I have been putting together competitions for my website and was wondering which is the best way to do it. So far I have made them so you can enter on the site, via FB and Twitter. Do you think it would be best to stick to one way to enter? Would really appreciate your expert 'competition' advice :)

If you are running your own competitions you need to make sure they abide to UK law and complies with The British Code of Advertising, Sale Promotion and Direct Marketing (read up on them here -- http://www.out-law.com/page-6780)
Also you can not advertise your own competitions on MSE as it is classed as free advertising.
  • It's about 200 a day for me too. My biggest wins are in my signature.

I have won 3 small prizes this week though like a t-shirt, shopping bag and pair of babycham glasses and I don't usually win little bits like this. It's nice to have something to keep me going until the next big win.

I try to aim for 100 a day just on the main board but some days I either can't be bothered, I'm going out or normal life gets in the way. I suppose realistically I do around 500 a week. I'm a bit sad and tick off the number as I go on a piece of paper and stop when I get to 100. I don't do them all at once. Half hour here or an hour there. Don't bother with the Daily mags any more as I found I was getting stressed about finding the time for no gain. Oh and I don't bother entering for bottles of drink, bars of chocolate etc.

I have been fairly lucky since I started around Feb, every month I have won something, some months 5/6 times or more although the vast majority have been ticket wins, which living close to London I am fortunate enough to be able to enter. Probably just the fact that this limits the entry level means odds of winning are higher for those.
