Why should'nt he be sure before he reports? Welfare of the child should be priority of any parent at all times, from what i understand being investigated can be very stressful and i would think that would have an impact on a childs homelife.

So can you ask the mortgage provider for the breakdown of Interest and capital (linkely to be mainly interest anyway).

But she won't be investigated if she is not claiming as a single parent so your point is irrelevant.
