550 inc bills?! Wow. I assumed it would be cheaper further out, but not that much cheaper. That said, though, when are we talking? Things could be wildly different now.

I'm going to go research though, I haven't really looked much outside of Zone 1.

its only about 2 years ago.
but it was a tiny box, and there wasn't that much around that kind of price either, but it is possible to find the odd cheap place
i think it was about 3-4m square, most hotel rooms ive been in were bigger :P

it was only ever a temporary place to get me used to the area and settled in before finding something better.

Well you should certainly go for jobs that pay a decent amount more than you are currently on.

I guess I could try and find a girlfriend, that'd make life a little easier!
Oh yes, because girlfriends are real money saving!

Don't worry too much about flat sharing in London, it's so damn diverse you. Just 2 minutes searching and I found one example that might be ok..

    http://www.spareroom.co.uk/flatshare/flatshare_detail.pl?flatshare_id=2847093&search_id=145780768&city_id=&flatshare_type=offered&search_results=%2Fflatshare%2F%3Fsearch_id%3D145780768%26mode%3Dlist&

2 blokes currently looking for another, aged 25 and 45 near Finsbury park.

One thing you'll find is London is BIG. Every area is a bit different, but they all have dives next to mansions. Usually with a nice park here and there.

Ha, I was of course referring to the 50/50 split, I guess I'd neglected to consider the 'extra' costs associated.

Thanks for the link, I'll take a look. Is it weird to prefer the idea of sharing with a female? I suppose there's no way of saying that without sounding completely creepy, but I mean it with the greatest of innocence.

If you have never flat shared before, it can be quite a daunting thing, and quite a learning curve. I lived in two different flats - one where were were all 'matey' (it went horribly wrong) and another where no one talked to each other.

I'm not sure which was worse!
