What is cream cheese please?

The desert recipe i'm making later calls for cream cheese. Can anyone please tell me if its the same as soft cheese or where I may find it please/ Ive looked in Asda and Sainsburys but cannot find cream cheese. Just about every other cheese but not cream. I was told its the same as along the lines of Basics soft cheese is this correct please and thanks

    AFAIK it's Philadelphia type cheese so own brand substitutes should be fine.

    Soft cheese/cream cheese is the same thing. Like philadelphia. But I just use own brand soft cheese.

    Yes. Its things along the lines of Philadelphia, so an own brand labelled soft cheese will be exactly right.

    The Yanks call Philadelphia a cream cheese and as far as I remember when living in the US it's identical to soft cheese sold here.
