Keep building the deposit. For mainstream lenders a year isn't a sufficient period of time to have elapsed.

Past defaults hang around for six years only. When you move home your credit history takes a little while to catch up with you, so best not to apply for new credit for a while if you can. If your credit history is a little on the thin side now then a credit builder type credit card, marketed at people with less-than-excellent credit histories, could certainly help you build some new history. Plenty of guidance in the MSE credit rating guide.
