Scented candles (Yankee, Partylite etc) alternatives

Sorry if this has been covered before, I've just done a search and couldn't find anything.
I'm looking for alternatives to really good fragranced candles. Some candles smell lovely in shops but they've only got a bit of scent sprayed on them, when you light it, the fragrance dissipates after a few minutes and the candles smell of wax.
I don't know much about candles and I'm sure there will be some MSE'ers who are knowledgable in this area.
Thank you.

Homebase do some lovely candles for £4 they have several different flavours (some really nice some not so, but personal preferance) they burn for 120 hours and look nice and chunky:

Jelly bean candles can be quite pricey but always smell good :-) maybe you can find them on offer.0
