Help with credit reports please?

In our first steps to getting our heads out of the sand and sorting our finances I have signed up to check our credit files with experian and equifax. I did my husbands with equifax and mine with experian because equifax wanted me to send them ID. Do they hold different records meaning we should check both? Also there is DH old bank l9an on there which isn't paid but shows as settled, it hasn't been long enough for it to be written off/unenforceable.
Thanks in advance for any help. Just started thinking over the weekend about how it might be nice in the future to be able to buy a house so we need to get things fixed. We keep up to payments now but because of 2 periods of unemployment things look very messy on there.

Yes, there are 3 credit reference agencies (you have missed Call Credit) and not all lenders report to the same one so you do need to check all 3 in order to get a full picture.
