Can't send eBay item?

Hi, had an auction finish with immediate payment from buyer, I had checked courier quotes beforehand & had built half the cost into the item price, other half was shown as p&p.

However the person who has won has a Northern Ireland postcode, I had chosen no international postage but didn't have any specific exclusions. Obviously the cost is now a lot more (2.5 times more) so I'm sure they won't want to pay it.

I have sent a nice message explaining this, saying I will refund immediately, is there anything I can do if this person starts being funny ie; demanding I send it anyway, or giving me a neg/ low stars?

this has happened to me this time, postage is astronomical & I am sure they wont pay. I do ask overseas bidders to email me for a quote, but of course they haven't.
So I will wait a few days, expect no payment, send them a reminder, expect no reply, open a NPB dispute, still expect no reply, close case, get my FV fee refunded, and relist the item.
This seems to happen more & more, and drives me nuts! :mad::mad:

Thanks, but they have already paid for the item with the UK p&p charge.

Even if I refund & send an amended invoice (can I even do that?) can they still neg me for not sending it? & how would I be able to get my FVF back?

Northern Ireland is in the UK - not overseas so UK postage rates apply. There might be a little extra to pay if using a courier but they should still apply UK rates. Get informed before ranting about this.

Most couriers charge a surcharge to Northern ireland.

I'm not ranting about this, I was asking for some advice!

I am well aware that N.I. is in the UK but the courier charge for certain postcodes changes things somewhat.. price has now changed from £9.98 to £28.97, I don't think this is a 'little extra' as you put it..

NI is not international - it is part of UK.

Many couriers have surcharges for NI and Scottish Highlands & Islands.

If the postage cost was going to be more for these areas it should have been stated in the auction.

Have you tried Royal Mail? I don't think they charge extra for delivery to BT postcodes.

What type of item is it?

It's a heavy, bulky metal item, that weighs 3.5 kilos, but is a funny size (110cm long) I didn't get quotes for BT postcodes as I wasn't aware there would be such a big difference in price, yes that's my fault but I'm trying to rectify it now.

I checked parcelforce which is marginally cheaper, but only by a few pounds & the nearest depot is 10miles away from me.

You can drop off parcelforce items in Post Offices

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that, when I checked it said you had to drop it off at a depot, & the postcode finder said my nearest depot was 10 miles away.

It was only a difference of a few pounds though, so I still think it will be more than they are willing to pay.

It's up to you - refunding means you run the risk of negative feedback, low DSR and a non-performing seller report, as the buyer has paid the costs laid out by you in the listing.

Not refunding and going ahead with the sale means your out of pocket on the postage. Depends which is more important to you. Asking the buyer for more postage to cover your error is a no-no.
