HSBC did this. It cost them one thousand nine hundred million dollars in fines.I know the purpose of the money laundering regulations, but should they not be applied with a modicum of common sense.
I'll say it again, they were fined nearly two billion dollars for not applying the rules with iron consistency.
They did not set out to launder, or to facilitate laundering. They did not ignore their rules, they just applied them "with a modicum of common sense".
So no, banks aren't keen to do that any longer.0 -
