Defrosted Lamb

Hi

Hope for some advice as I accidentally left 2 large legs of lamb out of the freezer over night.

The meat still smells Ok so was thinking of roasting them - but any ideas what I could then do with the meat - would it be alright to go back in the freezer once it has been cooked - would it be best to make it into something which would be a useful standby in the freezer?

Would love some advice.

Not a great start to sunday morning!

  • It's fine to re-freeze meat once, once cooked. I'd consider keeping one as roast lamb, and put the other back into the freezer once cooked in the form of curries or stews or similar ( in single or double portions,) so that I effectively had some home made ready meals available for those CBA evenings.
  • I`d cook both, and carve up when cooked, put what ou aren`t going to use now in gravy and freeze (in amounts you`d use at each time). I`ve done this and it works well.

Thanks for the assurance that the cooked lamb is fine if it is frozen again. I found some onions that were looking sorry for themselves and fried them and will add to the minced lamb and freeze.

Thanks again - a great forum - I have only just started batch cooking - but thought I would have a straightforward day today - but hopefully will save me time later on in the month.

Yes - absolutely fine to freeze cooked meat! and the minced lamb and onion mix is brill - that will save time when doing shepherds pie or meatballs etc! good thinking!

In this weather you you could probably leave those legs out for another day or two and they would still be fine cooked.
